  1.                             Midi-oke! FAQ (ver. 2.2)

  3. Midi-oke! is a full functional Computer Karaoke player for Windows.
  4. Although installation and running of Midi-oke! should be
  5. straightforward, sometimes, according to the first Murphy law, a problem
  6. may occur. 
  7. If everything else fails, before contacting me for help, please consult 
  8. carefully these FAQ. Probably you will find the right solution for your problems....

  10. 1. DOES MIDI-OKE! RUN UNDER WINDOWS 95?
  11.    Yes, awesomely.

  13. 2. WHERE CAN I FIND MORE KARAOKE FILES?
  14.    You can find a lot of them at the Computer Karaoke Home Page, 
  15.    http://www.teleport.com/~labrat/karaoke.htm

  17. 3. WELL, I'M BORED OF ALL THE KARAOKE FILES I HAVE. 
  18.    I WOULD LIKE TO CREATE MY OWN FILES. HOW CAN I DO?
  19.    It's not easy. First of all you have to become familiar with the Computer
  20.    Karaoke File  Format, then you can start to insert the lyrics in the proper 
  21.    track, at the proper time, in the proper MIDI file, using a good sequencer 
  22.    (Cakewalk, Winjammer, etc..). Or, just wait for the release of my MID2KAR 
  23.    - the Karaoke File editor. I will distribute it soon (well, it still needs
  24.    heavy debugging....).

  26. 4. IS THERE A VERSION OF MIDI-OKE! AVAILABLE FOR MAC?  
  27.    No.

  29. 5. ANY OTHER KARAOKE PLAYER FOR MAC?
  30.    Take a look at the Computer Karaoke Home Page, you will surely find 
  31.    something.

  33. 6. WHILE INSTALLING MIDI-OKE!, I GOT THE ERROR MESSAGE "STOP CANNOT COPY 
  34.    VER.DL_ -> C:\WINDOWS\VER.DL". WHAT CAN I DO?
  35.    The Setup program is complaining about the presence of the VER.DL file
  36.    in your Windows directory. This file is a copy of VER.DLL, created by 
  37.    another setup program. You can safely rename or delete it, and re-install
  38.    Midi-oke!. This time it will work! (Please remember, DO NOT DELETE your
  39.    original VER.DLL file!)

  41. 7. I SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED MIDI-OKE!. HOWEVER, WHEN I TRY TO OPEN A KARAOKE 
  42.    FILE, I CAN SEE THE LYRICS BUT CANNOT HEAR ANY SOUND.
  43.    First of all, check the MIDI Out list box and choose an appropriate MIDI 
  44.    device for sound playback. If this does not work, you should consider 
  45.    the fact that in a few cases a conflict has been reported between 
  46.    Midi-oke! and the SHARE.EXE program loaded into autoexec.bat/config.sys.
  47.    Although the new 2.2 version should not suffer for this conflict, if the 
  48.    problem persists please try to contact me. Meanwhile you can locate in your 
  49.    system files the line in which the SHARE command is invoked, and temporaly 
  50.    remove it. You should now be able to run  Midi-oke! without any other 
  51.    problem.

  53. 8. I CANNOT OPEN THE AUTOPLAY WINDOW, I RECEIVE AN ERROR MESSAGE ABOUT AN
  54.    INVALID FILE FORMAT, AND MIDI-OKE! STOPS. WHAT CAN I DO?
  55.    Your Visual Basic THREED.VBX has not been updated by the Midi-oke! SETUP 
  56.    program. This probably occurred because the file seems to be newer that 
  57.    the copy included in the Midi-oke! installation disk; in this case you can
  58.    manually expand the THREED.VB_ compressed file from the installation disk 
  59.    using the DOS command:
  60.    EXPAND THREED.VB_ THREED.VBX
  61.    Please make a backup copy of your old THREED.VBX file, before overwriting 
  62.    it with the new version!

  64. 9. I THINK MIDI-OKE! IS A GOOD PROGRAM, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST YOU TO
  65.    DO THIS, CHANGE THAT, REMOVE THESE, ETC.
  66.    All the suggestions are welcome, but please consider that I'm not a 
  67.    professional programmer. I have in mind many possible improvement for
  68.    Midi-oke! which I'm not doing simply because I don't know how to program
  69.    them. I think you should not expect the next version of Midi-oke! to have
  70.    substantial improvements with respect to this version. In any case, 
  71.    I surely will try to correct the bugs you will eventually notice me.

  73. 10. I LIKE YOUR PROGRAM, BUT I CANNOT USE IT SINCE I'M TERRIBLY OUT OF TUNE.
